Ganz: The Spellbinding Coastal Village of Balochistan

Ganz is a small coastal village located on the coast of Arabian Sea between Pishukan and Jiwani and 60km away from Gwadar city. As per censes 2023, the population of the village is 4032.  On December 8th, 1958, Ganz officially became part of Pakistan when the region gained independence. Main source of revenue is fishing. The local fishermen of Ganz are known for their strong sense of commitment and hardy work ethic. Teeming with an abundance of marine life, Ganz's deep blue water provides sustenance for its people.

Kingfish, sharks, Prawns and other prized catches are pulled from the sea in specific time periods. Besides, fishing, the stunning natural beauty of Ganz also attracts visitors looking to camp along Daran Beach or take in the breathtaking views of the coastline. Places like Band (A mini earthen dam), and Daran Beach are popular local picnic spots, offering sandy shores and peaceful seaside relaxation. Though small in size, Ganz radiates a warm, welcoming charm.

Its loyal inhabitants, picture perfect beaches, and bountiful water make this town a hidden gem along  Balochistan coast. Despite being pregnant with natural beauty it faces challenges such as poverty and lack of modern facilities like medical, shortage of tap drinking water etc. Ganz also faces sea erosion during summer and cyclone threats yearly and as a result many houses get affected.

People are migrating from coast to hilly hard areas. Kyar Cyclone hit the area and destroyed many houses, boats and other structures or properties of the fishing community. On the other hands, educated youth of Ganz established a library unaided. Ganz Public Library is equipped with more than five thousand books of different field of lives. It provides a healthy environment for the students of the village to spend most of their time in reading books.

Passo: The Verdant and Idyllic Soil of Pishukan

Passo is a remote mountain village nestled in the heart of Pishukan. With a population of approximately 150-200 people, it is a small tight-knit community of farmers and shepherds. The village is situated near Nasir Daggar field in Pishukan. The rugged, rocky mountains surrounding Passo are blanketed in lush green meadows during the spring and summer months.

Local villagers graze their livestock on the verdant highland pastures. Goats, sheep, cows, and donkeys are commonly raised. Villagers sell dairy products like milk, cheese, and butter to neighboring towns. Passo is off the electricity grid and lacks access to modern amenities.

The locals live in traditional mudbrick huts with thatched roofs. Due to its high altitude location, despite its isolation and simple way of life, Passo is filled with stunning natural scenery. The famous lake Passo(Hottag) is very famous for visitors and villagers.

The people of Passo live a humble existence, in harmony with the awe-inspiring landscape surrounding their home. Their community maintains ancient traditions passed down for generations.

Built by the Omani government before August 14th 1947, this rectangle fort was designed with the purpose of ensuring security in the area. The fort's unique circular shape and sturdy stone walls make it a striking sight that has stood the test of time for over a century. Despite the passage of time, the fort remains in remarkably good condition, a testament to the craftsmanship and ingenuity of its Omani builders. The winds of time may have weathered the stones, but the fort stands tall, preserving the whispers of history within its empty halls.

Pishukan is a charming town located near Gwadar city of Balochistan province along the Arabian Sea coast. The town is surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery, including deserts, rocky mountains, and plains.

It has several historical sites dating back to when Omani Sultans used to rule the region and had established their own state with their cultural infrastructures and fortified forts. Pishukan has a population of approximately 20,000 people, many of whom are fishermen as the town is in proximity to the sea.

One scenic spot popular with visitors is Nasir-e-Dagar, which serves as a picnic point. However, the town lacks infrastructure and amenities due to underdevelopment. Overall, Pishukan offers a glimpse into the traditional rural life, natural beauty, and rich history of the Balochistan region. Visitors can explore the town's historical sites, enjoy the scenic beauty, and experience the local culture.
